Petronella
Chigumbura
Deputy Ranger Supervisor
Deputy Ranger Supervisor Petronella Chigumbura holds a significant leadership role contributing to the Akashinga Programme's effectiveness and success. Her responsibilities include leading and coordinating operational activities within her designated area, ensuring that patrols, surveillance, and anti-poaching efforts are executed with precision to safeguard wildlife and protect their natural habitats.
Having completed her Ordinary Level Education at Nyamakate Secondary School in 2006, Petronella joined the Akashinga Programme in 2017 as one of the very first female ranger recruits in the organisation. She finished her Basic Ranger Training with Akashinga at Hurungwe Safari Area and was selected to go for Instructional Training in Kenya where she successfully graduated and was later promoted to Sergeant after returning to Zimbabwe.
Petronella's respect for nature, environmental sustainability, and her fellow rangers is enormous. Originally from Zimbabwe's Mashonaland West Province, as a single mother of two children, Petronella has built a home for her family, acquired her driver's license, and is able to send her children to school. A LEAD Ranger certified instructor, she takes every chance to act as an ambassador for her unit and profession.
